Luxury hotel resort in the Maldives is the work of Czech authors

Velaa Private Island is part of one of the nineteen coral atolls of the Maldives islands. On this unoccupied island, the Czech investor, with the help of architects Petr Kolář and Aleš Lapka from the ADR architectural studio, who invited a number of well-known studios such as Mimolimit, Patricia Urquiola and Labor13 to collaborate on the interiors, built a luxury hotel resort where visitors can enjoy a literal paradise on earth. They will arrive here by seaplane from the Maldives' capital, Male.
Originally there was only one house on the island. It has been kept because of its local character and today it is called the Coral House. Seventeen water villas and twenty-five coastal villas with one or two bedrooms, a living area and a private outdoor pool were added during construction, as well as five residential villas and a special romantic villa. The latter is designed to provide undisturbed privacy.
The authors tried to connect the interior with the exterior as much as possible throughout the hotel complex. For this purpose, they used a number of sophisticated views. "As far as the materials used are concerned, the investor wanted to use natural ones as much as possible, which can resist the local harsh climatic conditions," says designer Barbora Škorpilová from the MIMOLIMIT studio, who was involved in the interior design. The buildings are made of classic stonework, wooden timbers and palm roofs typical of the region. The interiors of the private and public buildings are richly furnished with wooden elements and decorations.
And wood also decorates the door fittings. "For the guest buildings and some of the facilities, we chose MIMOLIMIT handles and pulls, which I have previously designed for the Czech manufacturer M&T. These combine practical metal and elegant wooden filling," says designer Barbora Škorpilová.
The MIMOLIMIT handle is unique in its construction, where a handle made of wood is inserted into the base material, in this case solid brass. Not only is it possible to choose the surface finish of the metal part, but also to choose from several types of wood. For this implementation, handles with a very durable titanium surface in black were chosen. As a filler, exotic teak wood was used, which can resist Maldivian climatic conditions as it does not mind moisture or contact with water.
